Supporting Progress and Rewarding Achievement
We monitor the progress of all students carefully and work with students individually to help them to meet and ultimately exceed their achievement targets. This is done via regular and rigorous monitoring, target setting and review system for all students. We provide extra help in a number of ways ranging from individual tuition to small- group work, in-class support and a resource area for use by students. A student mentoring scheme operates for students at all levels, particularly those studying for examinations, to boost confidence and support revision. Support sessions of all kinds can be found as part of our eXL (extra learning) programme.
We formally celebrate and acknowledge achievements at each key stage through Awards Evenings, special assemblies, rewards trips and celebration events. Daily classroom practice sees students rewarded for their efforts through our rewards system of points (recorded electronically, as well as through the award of reward points for good effort, attitude and performance). This allows us to monitor student, class and House progress and to encourage healthy competition. Parents are given a login and can access the system to view what has been written by staff during the day.
Students are tracked carefully in all subjects and are set challenging targets.
There is a cycle of communication between school and home which ensures that all parents are kept well informed of how their child is performing, whether their performance is good considering their starting points and also what they need to do to improve.
At the end of every term we report on the level that each student is currently working at, their targets, their estimated performance at the end of the Key Stage. In the summer term, this report takes the form of a detailed written review. In addition, in the Autumn term each year, parents are invited to an Information Evening where we share important information about the curriculum, key issues, opportunities and organisational details that will be of direct relevance for that particular school year.
Parents are invited to Parents’ Evening where interviews with individual subject teachers are scheduled. Parents’ Evenings at Neston High School are well attended and valued by parents and carers as a way of sharing information about progress, attainment and behavior. We regularly remind parents, that despite this regular flow of information, we are always happy to respond to queries about the progress of a students at any stage of the school year.
