English Department Award for entrants to BBC Radio 2 500 words competition
A huge congratulations and thanks to all pupils who took part in the BBC Radio 2 500 words competition this year, representing Neston High School.
Several Key Stage Three classes participated in the live lesson broadcast back in January, followed by a series of lessons from their English teachers to inspire pupils to write creatively on a topic of their choice. Pupils gave peer feedback to one another on the categories of enjoyment, originality and plot. There were some unique and inspiring stories which were enjoyed by all.
Although none of our entries made it through to the final, we celebrated our top 15 narratives in a special reward ceremony in the library with the English Department. Pupils were invited to share their stories and critique each other’s work. Pupils enjoyed the cakes and hot chocolate and three pupils were awarded prizes for their creativity and originality-as judged by the department.
We are very proud of all of our Neston High School creative writers and would encourage them to refine their entries over the summer break in preparation for our Neston Key Stage Three Creative Writing Competition in September.
Remember to tune in to the 500 Words Final, which will broadcast live from Windsor Castle on BBC Radio 2’s Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, on Friday 14th June.
