Rotary Club Technology Tournament
On the 16th November 2018, Neston High School were the hosts to the annual Rotary Club Technology Tournament in association with Airbus organised by engineering teacher Mr Link. Neston hosted the tournament to a number of schools from across the Wirral with three different age categories entering the competition.
Neston entered 5 teams, out of which 2 won their age category and a team from the 'Advanced' category won the overall tournament. This team was made up of some very talented Engineering students. All the students from Neston were either Engineering students or were KS3 students that participate in Engineering Clubs ran by Mr Link.
The day was a great success, seeing students having to come up with Design solutions for launching a 'space craft' to a height of 3 meters, with certain specifications which they had to meet, each category seeing a different set of specifications to stick to. The teams only had limited resources and time and was a great learning experience for all. The day also saw employers from Airbus helping the students in their quests and provided great inspiration for the students of potential future career prospects. This was most apparent to our students as one of the employers was an ex pupil at Neston and our students loved hearing his journey through a highly converted apprenticeship at Airbus.
The day was enjoyed by all and will most definitely be taking place again next year. The tournament will be yet again organised by Mr Link so if you are interested in Engineering or entering a team, ensure that you speak to him to find out more information about other engineering events throughout the year.
