Important update regarding school closure

Dear Parents/Carers,

Re: Coronavirus update – school closure to most pupils

Following on from my last update, I am now writing to let you know that we have now been instructed to close the school to almost all children after this Friday 20th March until further notice.

From Monday 23rd March we will be offering child care arrangements. We are still awaiting confirmation from the Department for Education (DfE) as to which children and young people will be eligible for that childcare. This information is not yet available to us and we will send further information with details of the offer.  We know that this is a difficult time for everyone but it is important that everyone waits for and follows national advice and guidance.

In the meantime, if you could let us know if you are an NHS worker or provisionally you think you may fall into the Key Worker category.  Please complete the linked questionnaire to provide us with details.  This is a first gauge whilst we await further information thereby we will be in touch again as soon as we are sure who this does apply to.

All other children will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday 23rd March onwards.

Please note that this is a national closure, so while it is a challenging situation, we are not alone. We’ll re-open fully as soon as we can and will let you know when this is by sending an email home, putting a message on the front screen of our website and posting on social media.

What we’ll continue doing while your child is at home

To support our students, all have been given advice on how to access remote learning resources. Students can access resources and software available in school from home using our Remote Connection. This access is available from most Internet connected devices; Desktop/Laptop computers, iPad/Tablets or smart phone.

Further support or guidance, can be found on the school website, under the heading of ‘Remote Learning’. The link for this is:

www.nestonhigh.com/Remote+Learning

This area of the website will be updated regularly throughout the school closure.

If your child does not have access to a computer or laptop we have a small supply that we can issue for the school closure period.  Please let us know by completing your details on this link and we will contact you to arrange for your child to be issued with a device.

Free School Meals

If your child usually receives free school meals we will also be in touch with more information about how we will continue to provide this. If you think you are eligible for free school meals and do not already receive this already please contact Cheshire West and Chester on 0300 123 7039 or go on-line to cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk and go to Schools & Education, then Free School Meals where you can apply on-line. The on-line eligibility checker will notify you straight away if you qualify.

What we won’t be able to go ahead with

• The summer exams for Y11 and Y13 have been cancelled on a national basis.  We are awaiting Government advice on how grades will be calculated and will share information with you as soon as we can via email.

• All educational visits until the end of the Summer Term have now been cancelled, we will be claiming on our insurance and will issue refunds for monies already paid over the next few weeks.  We are working with our insurance companies to resolve how this will be managed for all.

This information is as much as we know at the moment and we appreciate your continued patience with as we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and it is far from ideal, but we’ll continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops.

If you want to get in touch to share any concerns, please don’t hesitate to do so via admin@nestonhigh.com.  This email address will be monitored daily throughout the school closure.

And remember: if you or your child feels ill and you want to know what to do next, please use NHS 111 online.

Thank you again for your continued support, and we will be in touch with more information when we can.

Yours sincerely

K Simpson
