Year 9 Literacy – Guest speakers

On Thursday 14th June, Year 9 Literacy pupils welcomed Meg Parkes and Romee Hindle to talk about the experiences of captured Prisoners of War and internees during the Far Eastern campaign of WW2.

Romee (only 18 months at the time) was interned for 3 years, with her mother and sister. She was captured in 1942 when the Dutch East Indies fell to Japanese troops and she was held captive in a Javan camp until her release in 1945.

The talk was fascinating and it will form part of a wider, whole school project on far Eastern prisoners of war (FEPOW) which will run throughout the next academic year; an initiative supported by The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.
