Year 8 Accelerated Reader Reward trip to Storyhouse Theatre, Chester.

What better way to begin the first term of 2018 than an English Year 8 reward trip to the theatre!

Just after the Christmas break, on Wednesday 10th January 2018, Mrs Cavanagh, Miss Tomkinson and Mr Smith took 27 Year 8 students to the recently opened Storyhouse theatre in Chester. Students enjoyed the opportunity to see a performance of Enid Blyton’s classic ‘Secret Seven’ brought to life on stage. Our students were lucky enough to have front row seats, as well as their very own copy of the ‘Cherrydale Times’ with spy holes, to use during the performance!

Two students from each Year 8 class were selected and invited to attend a reward trip for making exceptional progress on Accelerated Reader during the first term of this academic year.

Students really enjoyed the experience of seeing this ‘5 star’ performance on stage, before returning to school to design and create their own 21st Century den for the Secret Seven. Many of the students decided to take one of Enid Blyton’s classic books out of the school library to read and then take an Accelerated Reader quiz on.

The comments from students really sum up this fantastic experience:

“The performance was incredible and it was entertaining the whole way through. What a performance and an amazing day!”                              Charlie Zost- Hughes

“My favourite part was all of it – it was so good and different! Thomas Vine

“I thought the play was interesting and I liked that we were given newspapers to find out the clues.” Sophie Rickard

“I thought the day was an amazing experience and really added to our learning. I loved how the actors entered the stage from different entrances.”                Amy Lunt

A great time was had by all and students thoroughly deserved the experience!
